Tvr History:
TVR was nurtured way back in 1947 by Trevor Wilkinson. It was originally called Trevcar Motors. However, Trevor Wilkinson changed the name of the company in 1954 by removing two vowels and a consonant from his first name. That’s how the name TVR came to life. Two years later (1949), the company built its first car. The company later embraced the concept of glass-reinforced plastic body work over a tubular steel back bone in 1953.By then, TVR cars were using 4-cylinder engines manufactured by Ford and the performance models having shorrock superchargers. With an engine size less than 2 liters, the car produced less than 75 Kw. The TVR cars were mostly sold within the British market and very few were exported abroad. Famous American motor dealer Jack Griffith decided to try a 4.7 liter V8 engine from an AC Cobra into a TRV Grantura. Because of this, the company honored jack by naming one of the models TVR Griffith. In 1960,TVR again went back to ford for a 2994 cc V6 Zodiac engine for its new model TVR Tuscan(1967) racer. By the late 1970s,a number of engines where used the TVR cars especially the M series. The engines were Ford Essex V6, Ford 1600 Cross flows and the Triumph 2500s.To date, different people have owned the company. Trevor Wilkinson left the company in 1962 after being in charge from 1947-1965. Martin Lilley then owned TVR between 1965-1981. Peter Wheeler left the company in 2004 after owning the company between 1981-2004. Nikolay Smolensky currently owns the company.

Tvr Overview:
TVR was founded by Trevor Wilkinson in 1954.It later amalgamated with Grantura Plastics to make cars off a small assembly line. The model TVR Griffith was initially called Grantura and was not very successful. Jack Griffith, a New York motor dealer then tried mounting a ford V-8 engine into Grantura. This resulted into birth of the TVR Griffith. It had a lightweight and propelled to speeds of 155mph thanks to a powerful engine. The model was stopped due to quality issue and lengthy strikes by dock workers. It was then replaced with a TVR Tuscan which was also scrapped due to poor sales. TVR has changed ownership and refinancing more than five times and had relative success along the way.
